Just a Taste

I swear I'm going to get to writing my big giant post about college soon. (I've taken pictures of my dorm/study for you to see)
I may even have to divide it into like 3 different posts but I'll get there eventually.

So one of my classes I'm taking is 19th century European history, although we have not really gotten to the learning part yet I'm super ( Read more... )

I object to the notion that either Finland or Norway would belong to Western, Mediterranean or Eastern Europe. Northern Europe. Everything south of Denmark and east of Finland is scary!

I started school only yesterday and so far the only interesting thing seems to be the presentation and essay with topic of choice I have to make for English C course. I'm thinking Arthurian legends. Just can't decide whether to use that for the presentation or the essay. *Ponders*

Always thought the Finnoman and Svecoman movements were interesting... Particularly the fact that the latter seems to have been a reaction to the former.

Yeah I was thinking about that too since they don't really fit in those categories, which upsets me because I really want to talk about factional movements in Finland....Maybe I can fudge it and say since Russia is Eastern Europe and Finland was part of Russia, that Finland is Eastern Europe. Do you think that's fudging it a bit? (I know culturally I'm fudging.. or sort of not because the Karelians? Ughh I need to study more about people's opinions up there before I make a faux pas, which I have)
Yeah Norway I got nothing... Why didn't my professor also include Northern Europe? Urgggh.

(I still need to email my Professor about it...I'm just a little scared to, since I'm like one of the few freshmen in the class)

Hooray for school? Sort of kind of? I'm not sure?
Oh but for your project I say presentation! Well, I would do that, cause I like seeing pictures or acting out stuff.
(You could open with a song from Camelot. JK)The Finnish nationalist movements are fasinating in general, even how the Russian government was all for the ( ... )

I THINK Finland could possibly be pushed through... Maybe. Maaaybe. It's a bit iffy. Technically it was eastern at the time, yes, but from a modern perspective... Also Finland was autonomous. Culturally fudging I don't know, Finno-Ugric cultures and especially Finland are really wedged between the Germanic and Slavic branches. Don't know anyone who would call Karelian culture Slavic/eastern though. Then again Estonia is considered eastern, isn't it? Being a Baltic state. Although they prefer to be referred to as Nordic and culturally that does make sense considering Finnish and Sámi culture... Then again there are small Finno-Ugric tribes still living in Russia... And ow, now my brain hurts ( ... )

True true, I just e-mailed my professor about it. I said "factional movements" and I'm not even really sure if that's a term. Oh well I hope he gets what I mean, or I just sounded really stupid.
*crosses her fingers and waits for a reply*
(I'm still reading that book/article though. I still need to rush out and get it because I found out Fridays and Saturdays are the only days it's closes early. WHY FATE!?)

Ow now my brain is hurting... Yeah at least you have grown up some what around there (sure as hell a lot closer then the Southern US) so you have heard a little bit more knowledge. For me I have to start from scratch, it doesn't help that all the rare history majors only seem interested in Tudor history with Henry VIII and his wives. I'm kind of alone in my love of Nordic history, none the less 19th century Nordic history. Most people who like the Nordics are more obesessed with vikings. Yeah it's interesting but not my forte. I'm more interested how the vikings/norse mythology was such a factor in Scandinavism and uniting ( ... )

I know I kind of really want to use her, but you know how professors are with sources haveing to come from people with Ph.D s.

Quick try to convince Aino to get a Ph.D so my professor considers her a crediable source on Finnish history, even though she's from Finland.

I could use her to be like it still effects Finnish people today, and then use a quote from Aino...maybe.

I should befriend her. I'm pathetic
