I don't know how the fuck I slept last night, but this morning I woke up with some wicked neck pain ( Read more... )

Hey buddy;
I'm sure you'll do a great job. It was funny that you wrote you were hoping you'd have enough for 35 minutes, and then went on to list all the things you want to talk about. I think you'll have trouble keeping it UNDER 35 with that range of topics. It sounds like a good range of discussion; I'm sure everyone will learn a lot and enjoy it. Best of luck! Be sure to let us know how it goes.
Miss ya lots.

I don't have much to offer in terms of content.
But I make my living of speaking in front of people and you mentioned being nervous as all hell.
Here is what I remember.
That is my stage, that is my spotlight. I own that space. I know what I'm talking about, and if I miss something, no one is going to know. Walk out there like you own the place...because for your 35 minutes, you DO own it.
You'll be fantastic Caleb! Good luck!

Thanks, I'll do my best to keep that in mind.

"I'm sexy, they like looking at me, I'm sexy, they like looking at me, I'm sexy, they like looking at me..."

er, that IS what you said, right?

;)

Hey, I doubt I can do something before hand because I'll likely be hectic and nervous, but afterwards I might be able to grab a (decaf) coffee. I do have to see my cousin for a bit though, because she's gone to the trouble of organizing this thing and all of that, and I haven't seen her in about two years. But I'll try and do the family thing before the event and some friend-time afterwards. Have you found any local coffee places that aren't too bad?

going with trans day of rememberence i notice a lot of folks that do pieces on brandan teena or others who have suffered at the hands of discrimination and violence tend to gravitate towards the brutal visceral parts of their attack etc...which if we're talking about how violence exists for trans people and isnt made up then thats useful but when talking about ending discrimination and violence i feel it gives more license to the violence that is taking place rather than shifting the argument to the barriers trans people face and how we might alleviate these barriers...i know this might be a bit deep for intended audience so gauge it but you might want to add a tidbit such as....."rather than objectifying or erotizing the transitional process of trans folks or the graphic parts of violent attacks, let's talk about what we can do so that this is avoided, or how we might link this to misused operation of power ( ... )

Hey, yeah I'm definitely aiming at the structural barriers in this speech. I'm pulling stuff from my thesis, which is all about bumping up against institutional and discursive walls (which you read, so you're familiar), so I'll be sure to talk about those. Specifically, I'll be talking about my experiences with health service providers, with government and financial bureaucracies, and with coming out to my parents ( ... )
