I spoke with another person who had Wegener's Granulomatosis for 15 years since she was 15 years old. She told me she lost one of her eyes 5 years ago due to ganuloma formation within her eye, and her nose cartilage collapsed due to perforations caused by granulomas. She now lives with ane eye-patch, and is awaiting reconstructive surgery for her ( Read more... )

That's horrible. I am absolutely terrified of anything happening to my eyes, and it still makes me shudder to see someone else missing an eye. Hell, my mom is blind in her left eye due to an accident when she was a kid and it's still pretty hard for me to see that.

Still, it's curious that some of the advancements in that field involve your mouth in various ways. I think it'd be pretty weird to see from that angle.

I know some people who have fake eyes and it's not too bad, even when they remove the eye. It's more lens shaped, because once an eyeball is remoevd from the socket, the walls on the other side convex forward and the socket itself becomes more of a U-shape. Thus, you won't really have a gaping hole but just a fleshy wall! I asked the same person whether she has to wash her eye socket or anything because I'd imagine dust can get in there, but apparently no need for that sort of thing. Good to know these things.
