It Wasn't Me!

The recent post on locks and keys was NOT made by me. Some LiveJournal-oriented bit of malware decided to post what seems to be a subtle advertisement.

I had recently purchased some digital locks for my home. From Amazon. Now my news feeds are full of advertisements for digital locks, as well as other things I'd recently purchased. If I even look ( Read more... )

That's creepy someone could hack your LJ and make a post like that. Now that would be a relevant reason to switch to Dreamwidth. The gay pandering explains the exodus of gamma white-girl sjws up on out of here, but I wish I knew why this place suddenly got dead in the last five years. Most of my friends are gone too.

For what my opinion is worth, a lot of people switched over to Facebook for blogging since they weren't writing essays. Also, there were a lot of easily panicked people going "T3H RUSS1ANS! AAAAH!".

As a Constitutional conservative, I would not be welcome on Facebook. And my natural inclination is toward little essays.

The culture war now playing out is crucial to the survival of this country as a free nation. I am watching with interest, and Facebook is a central piece in the mix.

Yeah, I mostly don't post anymore because there's no point. No one reads it anymore and there's so much extremism and shunning going on out in the world there are a lot of topics I'm afraid to even post my opinion on anyway.

'If I even look at at item on a website, whether Amazon or eBay or Tophatter or whatever, that exact item fills my ad feeds on every news site I read. "

I have seen the exact same thing happening, even if I am look at something on one computer then pull up LJ (or some news feeds) on another.

Well, it may have been spam, but it served a purpose - we got to hear from the real Keith. ;-)

Good to hear from you, Keith!

I haven't posted as much political stuff as I wanted. I'm wanting to get involved with the Convention of States though.

Good to see you here, even if it's under odd/unwelcomed circumstances.

I do suggest: https://www.malwarebytes.com/

And a nice spring cleaning of browser cookies to go along with it.

My local machine is not infected. To my knowledge, MalwareBytes doesn't do anything about Russia nor WordPress hackers. My local machine discipline has been quite good, and a combination of that and good luck has prevented any serious local infections.

I like MalwareBytes, by the way, and I do run it from time to time. And I'm alerted to every cookie attempt, and I block almost every third-party cookie except for the ones involved in, say, shopping cart checkouts.

I'm glad to see you still here too, my friend. There are a lot more of the old gang here than I realized ... it's time to keep this up, I think.

And ... I'm a lot better set up to receive visitors in the High Desert, and would love to see you and yours when you find yourselves inclined to wander in this direction.

Wow.... that's horrendous.... your LJ compromised, and DeHavelle too?? Maybe it's time to get a Mac.... (though they aren't perfect)

And yeah, it's more than cookies nowadays... it's a combination of code and IP address and etc... used a lot and mostly by the "AdChoices" group ... you can even use Private Browsing mode and they still can track. By the way, that mode is a LOT more private in Firefox than in GoogleChrome... but yes, to stand a chance at note being AdTracked by the browser, you need to combine Full Cached and History clearing, plus Private Browsing, Plus restarts. Now if they have your email address, that's an additional matter....
Best of luck!

p.s. Whatever style you are using for this entry does not allow me to add my character icon at all, fyi

Yeah, I even run Adblock and Noscript in Firefox, but if I have to pull something up in Edge because of something I need to function that doesn't with all my Firefox protection, I get ads for things I was just looking at on Amazon. Creepy as hell.

Very well said! .. and wow, yes I do the same... browse mostly in protected Firefox, but some sites don't do so well with the blocks, and if I trust them (or am willing to take a chance) I also try another browser, and that sort of tracking does happen. ;/ (so do that regular clearing and resetting when you can afterward)
