My smoke detector started beeping because the battery was low.

So, since I didn't have that size battery to replace it, I took out the battery to disable it.

But the damned thing kept beeping.

So I pulled it off of the wall.

To find that it's wired to the electrical system.

So, riddle me this:

WTF DOES IT NEED A BATTERY FOR?!

In case the power goes out and there's a fire (or in case a fire cuts the power supply.)

Still, that's damned annoying, if it won't stop beeping!!

See... I thought about that... but then technically, shouldn't the battery NOT be dead?
