 I think, if a person is driving down the street and looks casually into your yard, and it takes them a second to realize that you and your wife, sitting on a small bench, are in fact, real people, and not tacky lawn ornaments

I fail modern art history. Had to look up Duane Hanson. Pretty sure I've seen the work before but I'm awful with names.
