Actually, Superman didn't have his powers as soon as he arrived on Earth. They're due to his unique Kryptonian physiology having spent its formative years under Earth's yellow sun; they didn't manifest until Clark Kent was a teenager. But I agree; it's why I'm always uncomfortable with the idea of Superman as a Christ-figure (even though I'm not religious), because Superman is very proactive about alleviating the troubles of the physical world rather than "saving people from sin." However, Superman does continually talk about inspiring people to be better through his example. Superman may punch Darkseid through the moon and glare disapprovingly at Lex Luthor through the window of his office tower, but I don't see Jesus slugging the Devil across the desert or giving Judas the evil eye. Anyway, one comment in this homily made me crack up: "A child never says, "I liked the movie, but it had it's flaws." That's some funny stuff, man.
Thanks Jeff. I'm glad you got something out of it. Nice info about Superman. I wasn't even thinking about his childish self, but that's a good parallel I could've drawn. Superman didn't need help as a baby, he lifted a truck over his head as a baby! (At least in the movie. :) )

I guess a homily is a sermon or essay?
