I was GOING to write about my first day of college, but, no. I just received a review of a Monk story I wrote a year and a half ago, Adrian/Ambrose, which is an incestuous pair.

The reviewer wrote, "Sorry, but I don't condone incest. This story should be removed."

And I sort of sent her a reply that kindly asked her to fuck off because she didn't ( Read more... )

Feh. I can't stand incest fic in general either, but she's got no right to tell you what should and should not happen to your story, and she's arrogant as hell to think that what she does or does not condone ought to matter worth a damn to someone she doesn't know...

(Hi, found you through /friendsfriends/, probably through trialia. Sorry about the random comment, but your post made me want to say a couple things).

Unless that reviewer was a mod, I don't understand where she gets off telling you to take it down. I can't believe people can be so arrogant...

Bearing in mind that I'm a high school senior who has never, through some quirk of fate, had to write a serious paper in all four years of high school, I don't understand what's wrong with that quotation. Can you explain it to me, please? D:

I just graduated high school last week, early, so. You're not alone on the age thing. It's just that my PhD mother needs a proofreader.

"My leadership profile marks me for success in the endeavor to lead up because my decadent tenure in government service provides a keen comfort for rules and regulations."

Debra wrote that. Okay. Let's look at this.

Her profile marks her for success. This doesn't make sense. How can a profile marks her? It can indicate her tendency toward one style or another. It can't predict success, and definitely not with any accuracy.

The endeavor to lead up. What the hell is that? Lead what up? Why endeavor to do it instead of just doing it?

My decadent tenure. Decadent? Lavish, luxurious seniority within the business? My mother and I came to the conclusion that she meant decade, as in, she's been there for a decade. She just got it wrong ( ... )

Hah. My mother definitely would never ask me to proofread, probably because I'd end up picking the actual subject and arguments apart, rather than just check for spelling and grammar.

I definitely agree that the sentence sounded pretentious and just generically off, and I caught the "lead up" bit (and thought I was missing something), but I couldn't pinpoint what made it bad, like you did. Thank you.

Also, congrats on graduating early! I wish I'd gone for that, because my next semester is going to be utter hell.

I KNOW. WTF. I know, okay?

I just deleted it from the document. I didn't attempt to translate it out of lol-make-the-thesaurus-go speak.

Oh, it's bad, it's just. Passable. She repeats herself a lot, so I mostly cut out the worst and leave what actually means anything.

OH MY GOD I can't stop laughing at that quote. What does it mean??? Dear god in heaven. XDDDD

And wow, what a self-righteous prick. She thought that because she had moral issues with incest, you needed to take it down? Excuse me while I go insert my head into the garbage disposal.

I cannot stand when people act like they're five - seriously, that stuff used to fly in kindergarten, and NOW YOUR TIME HAS PASSED. I'M SORRY. What tight-assed kind of person gets joy from doing that, anyway? I apologize, I'm ranting, but this example reminded me of too many other examples. I just hate it when people think they have the right to tell you what you can and can't do because WAHHH IT BOVVERS THEM.

AW GEEZE I'LL SHUT UP NOW.

re Miss Bossypants: entitlement issues much? Jeez. Those skin coverey things over your eyeballs? USE THEM and don't look. Or better yet, back-click and move along. Sometimes the stupidity just amazes.

re sentence of word vomitus: WTF. Please put the thesaurus down and back away slowly. Then again, she mentions govt. service, so there you go.
