That boss kicked my ass so hard I thought I became gay or something. The thing beat me constantly after a couple tries so I went back and pumped my guys up for about 6 hours and tried again. It was one of the hardest boss fights for me in years.

Are you serious? I thought I was going to lose it because you're prevented from using a certain swordsman, and he was my super-tank. Why the hell does the game prevent you from using him on the final battle?! Anyways, I had Zerase, so everything was okay. Zerase is usually enough to win any battle for me.

Put a bunch of Double-Edged and Power/Magical runes on to make things a bit harder. You'll do more damage, yeah, but most characters can only take one hit from the main boss itself (and since it always uses group attacks...).

I can see how that would kinda suck. Especially since everyone in the game has a crappy Physical Defense to begin with.

The first time I fought it, I had Double-Edged runes on everyone, and forgot to bring a healer. The only way to heal the whole group was by doing the Dawn/Twilight magic combo, and it didn't activate until after the final boss' turn, so yeah. That experience sure did suck.

I've been wanting to put on Steel runes to see if I can make it even harder, but I'm worried I'll only end up torturing myself.

How many hours did it take you?

Does it have as much small stuff and extra stuff, as II?

I was at 70 hours. And I didn't stop to play mini-games, recruit everyone, and see all that there was to see. I kinda rushed through at points.

Does it have as much small stuff? More in some ways, less in others.

You know how in S2 you could see small scenes outside of the plot, like when you wandered your castle at night? Those are *everywhere* in the game. Sometimes an optional character you recruited pops in during a plot scene even, and sometimes an optional character you recruited can even have a big impact (not too often, but it can happen). However, there are no times when random characters in your party say things during events. In S2, many events would trigger comments from the optional characters you brought with you, but in S5 only the characters you were forced to bring say anything (or ever appear on screen for that matter).

And beyond just characters, there're fun mini-games to play. The fishing game was the only one I spent time on though because I did find it fun. I didn't even try the checkers, dragon horse racing, or card games.

No chinchirorin though...unless I missed that.

The dragon horse racing is pretty terrible. Then again, I found the fishing minigame mundane and irritating; pots and boots look exactly like fish, which was really annoying.

Can you permanently miss Stars here? I've just started the English version yesterday, but it wouldn't hurt to know.

You can permanently miss several stars, from my experience. This game doesn't make it easy if you don't know the requirements.

And there is even a case of two characters having the same star, and you have to choose one of them. I didn't know about this until after I recruited one of them, but really (not to spoil anything) I can't see any benefit from recruiting the other character...

Oh yeah, and I did miss at least two characters. They were at Hersheville. I didn't know it was an optional location to go to, and was waiting for the plot to take me there. Oops!

Also, when you get your castle, make sure to try exitting it by walking out of it every time your castle upgrades. You'll have to fight a monster 2 times this way. On the third timw, if you've recruited one of two other characters, the monster will join you. Just make sure to fight it twice before the final castle upgrade.

And if you bring Zegai and Belcoot with you when you assault a certain place later in the game, they'll offer to fight in a duel for you.

... Really? And Zegai? I guess that makes sense. I had Richard in my party, and he offered to duel as an ex-gladiator... if that's the fight you're talking about. (If not, I haven't gotten far beyond this point yet, so no spoilers plzkthx.)

Yeah, that's what I'm talking about. I didn't recruit Richard though. I knew how to recruit him, but when I thought about walking back into the Waterfall Basin after two failed attempts at recruiting Genoh (damn you Zerase!) I decided I had enough of the place.

Yeah, remember that Champion's Rune from Jeane's sidequest? Yeah, only reason I got Richard and Genoh.
