I'm in too good a mood to say anything about what made me headdesk while watching the series finale, so let's just concentrate on the pretty why I'm still obsessed with this show.
Arthur: I've known [Morgana] all my life. How could she do this to us?
Arthur contemplating on the character butchery that was Morgana's tranformation into One Dimensional Evil Villain in series 3. Yes, Arthur, we don't understand it either! And while you are at it, why don't you ponder on your own characterization as well, since lately it has been very difficult to see anything of the Once and Future King in you. No offence, dear.
Sir Leon in a dress was a nice surprise, and so was Gwen's declaration that she grew up in the same household as Leon! YAY. I don't know why but this piece of information filled me with glee.
Somehow I think Gwen used to play dress up with Leon when they were kids as well. Hee. Of course, this was before they invented Barbie dolls.
The Table. It is very round. Seeing Gwen and Merlin both next to Arthur made me smile. I will say nothing about how hypocritical Arthur's speech about equality and loyalty seemed in reference to his portrayal in series 3, since that was one of those head-meet-desk moments.
I think one of the things in which Merlin has succeeded is the way the future knights have been introduced. I love that most of them weren't born into the rank and have sworn allegiance to Arthur foremost, and not to Camelot. They aren't just the knights of the Round Table, but Gwaine is Merlin's BFF and more into boozing than anythign else, Elyan is Gwen's brother, Lancelot knows about Merlin's magic etc.
Oh, Lancelot. How happy am I that he is back and quite possibly for good? VERY. It's incredible how different the tone of the show is when Merlin has a friend around who knows about his magic and isn't afraid to confront him about it. LANCELOT, I HAVE MISSED YOU SO.
Gwaine and Lancelot, my two favourite knights! Sorry Leon, sorry Elyan, sorry Percival.
Merlin: Perhaps we are heading for a new time. You may need to take charge. Become King.
HELL YEAH. Let me keep deluding myself during the hiatus that this is actually going to happen. That is, before series 4 starts and there's so much reset button that Morgana is back to being Uther's loving ward and Merlin is cleaning everybody's boots.
I really liked the ending. It wasn't as emotional as Merlin throwing the sword into the lake in series 1, but it worked.
That's the motherfucking Sword in the Stone, right there. Excalibur/rock = OTP, y/y?
As for my general reaction to most of series 3: Dear Merlin, I wish you weren't so pretty I knew how to quit you!
