decisions, decisions

I finally decided on Columbia for grad school-- I'm sending in my "no, thanks" to Rutgers as we speak. As excited as I am, I'm also freaked out by how this reality is going to change my life in such a short period of time. Abby and I and my lil bro (hopefully) will be getting a place in JC soon, and I'll become a commuter, "lil me in the big ol' ( Read more... )

How exciting! This is wonderful news. Does Columbia offer any student housing or help students find housing?

:-) Thanks. I guess the answer is yes and no... the housing they offer is awesome: in Morningside Heights and they accept DP's as family (which is a route we could easily go to scam the man lol). BUT it's reserved for international students and out-of-staters and I'm sure that the preference is given to full-time students, which I will not be. So although I applied (it doesn't hurt to try) I'm not optimistic. If they helped find housing, it'd probably be in NYC, which would also be cool but I have to stay in Jersey for my job.

We never really know until afterward if we've made the right choices, but even in making wrong choices, we shall all learn and grow and be wise and all that good stuff. :) I miss you and Abby and will try to visit soon.

hehe it's like that moment in Meet the Robinsons where the kid's future family congratulates him on his failures, because we learn much more from failures than we do from successes. I'm still going for success on this one though lol. Miss you too! Come visit!

Congratulations! For several things:
1) For Columbia in and of itself.
2) For making the choice.

So much of what you wrote resonated with me, grad school or no grad school. Funny how even at 23, 24, 25, and onwards we'd still like a little reassurance from time to time - no matter how accomplished and together we are.

I know it may not always be easy, but you'll pull it off. And of course, I'm down for a Madison visit soon. And then I'll come bother you all the time in JC or wherever the heck you'll be living in the fall. :-) Woo hoo!

Congrats again. We must chat soon.

1) Congratulations, the decision making process is almost more agonizing than waiting for your application to be reviewed ( ... )

Thanks I think I've been so committed to keeping the safety net intact for others, that I forget that I have one too :-) I feel like I'm at the top of a really big drop in a roller coaster and all there is left to do, really, is shut my eyes and start screaming into this whole grad school thing.
