I keep planning to add my books to this, and then I take a look at my books and give up. Some time ago I traded in about 200 books, and it hasn't actually made a large impression on the whole collection.
Definitely get a scanner - the "Add Books" entry box does the decoding of what the CueCat spits out for you, so if you can lay your hands on one locally (the site also sells them for $15). The only real issue with it is that right now, as far as I can tell, it only works with the ISBN bar code that has a 9 on the bottom left hand side of where the code starts - but most of my books have that on the back cover, and the paperbacks usually had one that wouldn't scan (with a 0 to the bottom left hand side) and one, on the inside front cover, that scanned just fine. (The bar codes that don't work will still scan, but LibraryThing doesn't find the book).
So much easier than hand-entering ISBN numbers. Although I have a few really old books that I had to hand enter, we did the last three or four hundred books with a CueCat. I'd still be entering stuff if we hadn't.
