I'm beginning to suspect that I didn't get into any grad schools. I had thought that my interviews went well, and maybe they did, but evidently not well enough. I'm clearly not anyone's first choice, anyway, or they would have contacted me by now. This makes me sad. It's also very strange for me (cockiness alert) to not get into things I apply ( Read more... )

You know, I really enjoyed grad school and all the friends I gained as a result... but I feel like grad school was just a steady job for three years for me. Before grad school I thought about getting out of theatre, but decided theatre was still what I wanted. Now I have a job that doesn't really require a degree and is going no where and I am once again thinking about getting out of theatre... I'm not telling you to give up on your desire to get a masters, but try to deal with that persistent fear. I hate to sound negative, but I'm just saying don't be afraid to take the time you need to make sure this is what you want. There are no deadlines.
keep smiling! You are special!

I know what you mean about that nagging fear that "this isn't what I REALLY want to do"... I have that all the time... about BOTH of my possible paths... so maybe that's partially the curse of a discerning, foreplanning, educated person?

As far as designer stuff goes, I have two ideas. I know, for one, my band would love some costume design help--we look like a bunch of weirdos. We always get pro (or semi-pro) photography done for live shows, and we need a bit of guidance for promotional photo dress as well... plus we're talking about shooting a music video for which we'd need some costume help... that would be something interesting and diverse to add to your portfolio if you're interested.

Second, my boyfriend's brother does little low-budget indie films, and if you'd be interested in doing makeup and costume design for those, I know he needs designers... SO... let me know if either of those potentially interests you.

And... yeah... i am with you on the fear part... =/

As far as grad school goes, it took me 6 years of working in theatre to get to the point where I really wanted it enough to put forth the effort. If you aren't sure then wait ( ... )
