I haven't done a Word of the Day post in a long time. Among the constellation of factors behind that are lack of interesting words, and a certain lassitude. I strongly advocated for a bonus feature scene at the end of the Thaco special edition DVD of gamers looking into the camera and saying words they first learned from RPGs. We started a list. It's pretty extensive (quick google docs search....)and here it is ( ... )

Even better is to use the D&D pronunciations... you know the one, where someone's seen a word in print but never heard it said aloud. This happens ALL THE TIME with gamer weenies.

My husband included. We've a running joke about "skim-uh-tar" for "scimitar" and so on.

Ah... you have one there for "chimera" -- awesome.

I mostly learned crazy weapon and armor names, like greaves, etc.

Ooh, and "obfuscate" -- learned that from a Vampire campaign. I told my grandmother about the word, and she later bought me a t-shirt that read "Eschew Obfuscation."
