YES! It's time for another getting to know my flist question. I can already feel your excitement :P

This one is inspired from me hitting the new 'friends of friends' link in the header, where I saw interests ranging from politics to Disney and vaginas to celebrity gossip. I know my journal runs along the lines of SUPERNATURAL! JENSEN'S FACE! ADAM ( Read more... )

Somehow I've been sucked into the Harry Potter fandom. I don't know how or why, but I can't seem to get enough of Snape/Harry. *is puzzled*

Oh man! I can't believe I forgot to include one of the largest fandoms *FACEPALM*. I'm such a dunderhead. What makes that pairing a good read, if you don't mind me asking?

Not at all!

I got into it in a roundabout way, first reading Harry/Draco, which I still enjoy. Then I started reading fics where Snape rescues Harry from the Dursleys', taking on a father/mentor/guardian role, and then somehow I moved into Harry/Snape, but I won't pass up good Draco/Harry/Snape threesomes, either.

I really enjoy vulnerable!Snape, such as Tira Nog's 'A Nick in Time' & 'Growing Pains'. I love it when the author really explores the vulnerability behind Snape's bitterness. I'm a sucker for a broken/damaged character (hence my deep and abiding love for Dean *grins*) and Snape's snarkiness hides a lot that wasn't explored in the books. And I love it when Harry discovers just how much Snape has to offer behind those billowing black robes!!! *evil grin*

Thanks! I find it so interesting to hear how people came to get into stuff. I don't know what that says about me!

Huh. I think that sounds similar to the way I enjoy Rodney McKay fics. Acerbic and mean on the face of it but then taking the time to have a deeper look and see what really makes the man (without losing any of the snark). LOL yeah I can see how that would fit Dean too, except he has bonus pretty *shallow moment*

It sounds like I might like those then. Thanks. Next time I'm wondering what to do with myself, I shall check those fics out.

On the subject of "Other:" I still go through Generation Kill reading binges, but I rarely comment anymore, and the fandom itself has almost halted. I love the show something fierce to this day, though.

Occasionally I dip my toes into old movie or book fandoms. I'm always on the lookout for anything related to Stephen King's "Dark Tower" series, and occasionally Storm Constantine's "Wraeththu" series (which I forever blame for both my introduction to slash and fandom - I was never enough of a goth for it to truly stick back then, though). Breakfast Club is always a pleasure. And I saw a Ferris Bueller prompt the other week in comment_fic that's got me scribbling all kinds of madness across several notebooks. Nothing else I'd call a Fandom, though.

I've never seen that show, but I did hear good things. Is it one that dies down when the show came to an end? I've got to admit, looking at the friends of friends thing, I was surprised that fandoms like Due South still seem to be active.

Hee. I love Ferris Bueller. But I can't imagine fic. For me I think it links into that whole 'things I love but don't read fic for' post I made a while ago where maybe the films feel complete enough for me or I don't see subtext and need for extra pairings? Anything that gets people excited is okay in my book though.

Oh! You've reminded me of that small fandom exchange that happens each year that's kind of huge...why can't I remember its name?

Man, I use LOL and :D in sentences here. That's way worse than any grammar error :P

GK lasted for at least a year after the miniseries first aired on HBO - 6 episodes, I think, based on a book written by a Rolling Stone reporter who was embedded with US Marines during the Iraq offensive. It's just incredibly well done, both the book and the miniseries, and not at all what you'd expect. The problem is that, aside from the closed canon, its characters are, in the end, real people. So it skirts the edges of RPF in uncomfortable ways for some authors, even though there are disclaimers all over the place - based on the characters portrayed in the HBO miniseries and not the actual people, etc. The canon has to stay closed for that reason, too - it's not like you can go and chase down details of what these men did after and use it, they aren't celebrities or "public" people in the traditional sense. So I think all the in-theater stories were exhausted, and then things shifted to AU for a while, and now the fandom is still there but very, very slow ( ... )

But, cool. I really enjoyed that film - although I managed to not find anyone attractive!! I know, faulty eyes *g*

But wait...does this mean no more Adam/Kris from you? *CRIES* /entitled

*g* I just found out that you got jeyhawk. Her J2 & Adam/Kris fics are so good - so I am jealous! But I know what you mean, when I saw that people like astolat were writing in the Adam Lambert fandom it made it just that much more worth it as a fandom experience.
