For the Halfamoon awesome women challenge. Fran and Lulu from the Final fantasy game series definitely qualify *g*. Fran is a new painting, and I did major revisions to the painting of Lulu from last year.
These are two of my three favorite Final Fantasy females, and you've not only hit on exactly the traits that make me love them in your descriptions but you've also captured them here in such a stunningly beautiful way.
I know nothing of these characters, but I really love the second one. There's such complexity to her features -- strength and vulnerability, outward focus and inner life. It's a beautiful work.
Thank you. It's different trying to paint from concept art and game renders. There's less importance to catching an exact likeness maybe but also less expression to use in catching character. I'm too used to having photos of people to work from! I wanted some depth to Lulu's expression, and I'm pretty happy with how she turned out after the revision.
These are both absolutely beautiful. Lovely detail on Fran's armor and the cuffs of Lulu's gown.
Oddly enough, what I find most striking about these are the quality of the backgrounds, which I can clearly see are from the games - the Forest of Macalania in the Lulu painting in particular.
Thank you! I'm so glad the backgrounds work. I was trying to paint something with the feel of the locations, even if not directly referenced - and the Forest of Macalania was such a pretty location.
Thank you! I wanted to hint at turmoil in the peace with the red butterfly (I ran into too many fiend battles trying to avoid the red butterflies in the game) despite all the blue butterflies she has.
