Art for the Sutcliff Swap. G rated

Sep 11, 2012 22:31

I ended up painting a lot over the last couple of months- in 5 different fandoms. Since I've already posted the Underwater-SF-Supernatural-RPF art here (maybe that should count for more than one fandom?) here is the second set!

I finally painted for a fandom ACTUALLY set in Roman times (rather than using any excuse to paint an AU) for the Read more... )

Wow, these are simply beautiful. I'm particularly fond of the first one with the background landscape, and the sky, and those birds, and the way the tip of the flag enters the inset piece where Alexios(?) grabs hold of it . . . gorgeous! And the first piece of Hilarion -- that is a lovely, lovely portrait, from his expression to his gentle smile, to the light in his eyes. I love the life you've infused into their portraits -- they're just so . . . alive. Wonderful work!

I may not know who these people are, but thanks to your gorgeous work, I WANT TO KNOW. I'll have to read these books now, won't I? :D

Thank you! That first portrait of Hilarion is meant to be a rare subdued moment (in contrast to his usual self), so I'm very happy that came through. Also, I ship them, so I like the thought of Hilarion gazing fondly at Alexios :) )

The thing with the end of flag entering the inset was a bit of dorky design that I wavered over including, but in the end liked it too much not to.

These are beautiful, and make me want to re-read the books (she was such a good writer.) I love the 'final scene' one particularly, with the light on the distant hills, and the one with Hilarion and the kitten is very cute!

Thank you!

I love her writing. Unfortunately I didn't own most of the books of hers that I read years ago (mostly borrowed from the library) so I was very happy to get some in ebook form recently. That might save my poor battered copy of Frontier Wolf from falling apart any more!

As always you work leaves me in awe. I'm so delighted we share as many fannish interests as we do!

Thank you! It was fun to work on something with a real historical setting - though I do love the AUs :)

Those are absolutely amazing (even if I must admit I've never heard of this book)!!
I am particularly fond of the b&W art (and not because I am a crazy cat lady xD ). I love how mischievous the character looks!

:D Thank you! That B&W portrait was a lot of fun to do.

Rosemary Sutcliff wrote Young Adult historical stories which used to be very popular in England (and Australia)years ago. They have a bit of a fannish burst with the movie The Eagle, based on her book The Eagle of the Ninth. I love the Roman Britain setting of these :)
