The democrats (who are in favor of it, since 26% of their constituents oppose it) are framing the debate brilliantly. The deem and pass tactic that Democrats were recently considering has been used a lot, but mostly as a matter of formaility and never on something which will have such a widespread impact. When you have such a large portion of the population that oppose a bill and you realize that it will harm politically weak incumbents if they had to vote on the bill, and you are considering resorting tot his tactic, it's pretty obvious that this wasn't the right direction to go.
In any case, as for their framing of the debate, I don't think anyone believes the current healthcare system is good, but they make it out to be that if you don't want this bill, then it's not really reform that you want.
This bill, however, really will harm Americans and it will mostly be poor Americans. Hawaii tried a similar program months ago and within 7 months, the vast majority of children who had private health insurance no longer had it, and
( ... )
I made a two line entry about a bill I don't fully understand the ramifications of because I've lived in Europe for the past 3 years.
Some of what I do understand is that women's health options are severely limited and there are grass roots campaigns to correct that.
I took 30 seconds out of my work day to post the link to said grass roots campaign.
I'm afraid if you want a well informed debate about this issue, I'm not your girl. I've been thriving under socialized medicine for the past 3 years and the bill has changed so much over the past 2 years that I don't have a hope in hell of saying anything intelligent on it.
