[She's not going to admit she got sprayed in the middle of walking down the hallway. Anyone who passes by her may see that her jacket is wet.]

...I have a question. I need to do some research, but besides the books in the library...

...Are there any computers on board that I might have overlooked? I've been looking for one but I haven't found ( Read more... )

Do you truly believe that computers, under the hands of Captain Redd and this crew are going to be earnest with the information they provide? Consider, if you would, the source from which any investigation may be completed; it is less than reputable.

Whether you find one or not, the chances of you being capable of recovering anything new that no one else aboard could already tell you are improbable if existent. You would be better off keeping your curiosity to a trustworthy passenger, if you can find one not leaning towards vehement blood thirst.

Even false information usually holds a bit of truth. If nothing else I need something to do while I wait for us to arrive at this 'Golden Shore' place. Besides, there are other things I want to look up.

And one should take these kinds of risks once in a while.

[False information holds a bit of truth. That is a very valid point to make and Sheik actually respects that a lot. This young lady knows to look beneath everything that she's given and to analyze it.]

In moderation as my charge would say. Risks are very well suited in moderation.

[He agrees with you, Rfena.]

[Rfena smiles; she picked up that he thinks the idea is somewhat good.]

In moderation, that's true. Doing something with no plan tends to give bad results; better to calculate the risk.

[She's a robot. She won't immediately discount a low-odds solution, but works through the higher ones first.]

If there is, I haven't found one yet.

The crew probably doesn't keep them within reach of the passengers, if they have them at all...

Yeah, probably not. They're probably hidden away in some magical room or something.

If the crew even has them at all, though the technology to use these communicators at least requires some form of signal.

[They could just be short-range walkie-talkies though...]

How have you been the last couple of days, Mikaela?

I am afraid I have not found any computers in my searches. Though whatever information might be suspect, considering the nature of this ship.

What is it you are researching, out of curiosity?

I imagine so, but even false information can be examined for truth.

I'm looking for any information about the ship - the date the crew thinks it is, among other things. And some idle research of my own.

[That idle research being she wanted to see the security level of their firewall, or something similar. She's two steps away from taking apart communicators.]

Truth. Though if you are seeking what little information we have about this ship, you might ought to ask the other passengers.

If my calculations are correct - and I certainly hope they are - it has been forty-five solar rotations since the last ship-wide festivities on... I believe they called it 'Halloween'. [Boy, THAT had been interesting.] Some of the others made mention of a 'Thanksgiving' sometime after that.

[Halloween and Thanksgiving, they still have, so that means...]

As if it wasn't obvious already, I guess, Christmas is next.

And I am asking the other passengers when I can, though direct methods always yield some results - maybe not what you were looking for, but something nonetheless.
