a couple of thoughts, to make things better or worse i do not know...

- Gaea will win in the end. The timetable may be long but she will win, with microbes or kudzu, all of human progress can be obliterated. This always gives me a small sense of comfort.

- Do what you have been doing, the world is changed by degrees. Not shopping at wal mart and supporting causes you believe in changes the world. Lead by example. I can't tell you how many ppl I know have stopped shopping at wally world because of something i said, a handful to be sure but like dominos...
You vote with your dollars, spend them wisely and when people ask why you do what you do, tell them.

- Wait, aren't you a journalist? ;) Dig up the dirt that these guys hide and expose it, you'd be suprised how much they don't like that.

Yeah, it's moving an ocean with an eyedropper; but it can happen

oh, and you're crazy

and Moo :)

I have no doubts She will win in the end. There is no fury like that of a Mother whose young are wronged, and we are wronging her children day by day. People are shocked when things like Hurricanes and Tornadoes rip through states and neighborhoods that have previously been left untouched. It always amazes me how people will study ecosystems and observe how little changes can have a big impact, and yet no one seems to open those studies up to a broader scale and realize it's very much true on this whole planet. We need to get away from seeing ourselves as removed from the rest of the planet because everything we do has an effect ( ... )

quail... they have this wave-like call, that crests and falls -- it's one of my favorite sounds in the whole world. coo-COO-coo. Oh, and just an FYI: I'm still cross-posting entries on my xanga, they're just listed under "protected posts" from now on.

You seem distinctly wonderful. I found you through iamkatia's journal, and after perusing through yours... wow, another great writer. May I friend you?

I am a poet, a writer, whose eye and heart Nature is capturing constantly. I don't really have an age, either being very young or very old. My loves are language (I took Latin for four years plus some, Spanish for two years (and a month foray into Guatemala), and French next semester), music (almost anything except pop, R&B, hip hop and country/western). I play the guitar, and I sing old-time, Appalachian mountain type songs (think Allison Krauss).

I'm a crazy-pants wearer and maker, wonderfully writing elf who thinks her closest friends are the neatest people ever, and loves taking long walks in the early morning or afternoon.

My dear, I do believe we're lost twins on some level. I have an elf-self-photo I'll post sometime.

If you hunger for words and nature, I would that you look at my dear friend, muse's journal. She is a tapestry of tongue and trees; Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos weaving a harmony seen in everything that is Life. Just tell her I sent you.

I envy that you play the guitar. It's a skill I've never acquired, but long for. I'm near fluent in Spanish; I lived in Puerto Rico for a year and still long to return somewhere I can speak the language daily and truly call myself bilingual. Well met, my friend... well met.

Okay, another response to this one, about journalism:

When I fell into journalism, I landed in "lifestyle" journalism. That is to say, the publications I have worked for have all been local pubs that focus on things like home life, interviews with locals, local businesses, and entertainment. They did not tend to delve into controversial or political issues. FlagLive! covered things occasionally, but I was never on those stories. I've always done "safe" stories.

And this is where I see a need for change in my life. If I intend to have a voice, I need to back myself with education first, and more than what I can get from just the Internet. I can't stand it when people blindly argue for a cause. I'm a firm believer in that if you solidly believe something, you should be able to defend it.

I have many possibilities. We'll see where they take me.
