bliss

...there is something absolutely ambrosial about waking up to sunlight falling in golden flickers, delighting tulips shot through with red and orange, wandering down a hill to visit with sheep and little black lambs, chucking sweetly-scented hay out of the back of a rickity old Ford pickup for donkeys and horses, and then sitting down with a cup of ( Read more... )

What a lovely icon! Is that your baby?

I'm such a pony-girl, have been since I was about six years old. The ranch I was at belongs to my boyfriend's parents, and he lives nearby. Being there is heaven to me-in addition to the sheep, Spanish-blood horses, and burros, they have cats, dogs, ducks, guinea hens, mammoth donkeys (whose ears are longer than my forearm), and mules.

Everytime I make the drive up there, my heart simply aches with happiness.

His name was Azgard's Mystic Wonder, barn name Merlin. He was so beautiful. I am so out of practise with them (though you're born as a horse person with horse sense, there's things to learn but you always just know the basics, you know?) Its been a over a year since I've even been on the back of one. Can't afford anymore lessons at the moment and aren't close with any other horse people. My boyfriend is taking me on a muzzle-to-butt trail ride sometime this summer. It's going to drive me nutty to stay at a slow walk...but eh, I'll take what I can get ( ... )

Horses have gotten me through some very tough times. They just don't seem to mind if you hug on them and cry for while; at times I swear they've hugged back.

I'm not sure where you're at, but have you done a good search for trail rides? I know here in Santa Fe, there is a company that tailors rides to rider experience-I was lucky enough to write about it for my magazine, and we actually allowed to gallop certain stretches.

Oh, horsies. *Sigh* Sometimes I just can't get enough.
