Copied from an entry july_v posted:

As other people have mentioned on their journals, and I'm sure most of you know, I do not wish for this journal or comments within it to be linked anywhere outside of Live Journal. Many of us here wish to remain fairly anon and work very hard to keep our LJ activities apart from our RL activities. So, don't be the ( Read more... )

I agree! It's really scary. I don't even use Facebook anymore because of all my family and work connections there. And the fact it is in my real name, etc. Do I need my family, etc. to see some of my LJ posts? HELL NO!!! I made sure my account settings do NOT have the option checked to share with Facebook or Twitter.

I hate that LJ did this! Do they not realize that most of us wanted a completely private place in which to post things and share only with other people who are on the same page? And not have to use our real names if we don't want? Jeez...

Anyway, yes. I already have a couple other LJ accounts that I hardly use, but I may have to as well. *facepalm* Do I need my life anymore complicated? :(

It really is completely ridiculous. I like the relatively safe world of LJ, and this feels like an intrusion.
Of course, people could already link to out journals if they wanted to, but F-locked meant F-locked, and now it's actually possible to link to comments to an F-locked entry. Also, the feature makes it much easier for them to link to our posts/comments.

I'm not worried about the people on my Flist, but more about the brainless ones who also visit our journals.

I will definitely repost this in my journal, if you're okay with that. I don't even know what to say to this bullshit, if it weren't so utterly shite, it would be hilarious, because you do have to wonder what complete morons would even come up with this, let alone allow it to go through. Breach of privacy DELUXE, that's what it is.

In any case, you can add the following into your Custom CSS and the Facebook/Twitter buttons won't show up anymore:

.b-repost-item {display:none}

This obviously only camouflages the actual problem of LJ people even setting this up, but it's at least something.

By all means repost. The more LJ users become aware of this fuck-up, the better.
It really feels like an intrusion, because they made it so damn easy for people to repost to fb or twitter. The worst part however, is that comments to F-locked entries can also be reposted. That worries me the most.

Thanks for the CSS, will give it a try.

I'll just copy what I replied to Jenni:

I agree with everything you say. It makes others aware of the entry the existence of the journal. The reposting comments from F-locked entries is the worst part, IMO. How dare they???

Okay, obviously I need to read those news entries more carefully - wtf is the point of this feature and who came up with it? Reposting public material is one thing but from f-locked entries?!? How dare they is right! They can't do it if enough people protest; where do I go to do that?

Yep, I keep twitter, facebook and LJ separate as well. On twitter I have a completely different crowd than on FB, even. I use FB to pick up guys to keep in touch with relatives and rl friends, mostly.
