Day 19 → A talent of yours
So I cannot demonstrate, but I can provide pictures!
I played trumpet for 15 years, starting in 5th grade and pretty much ending last spring, as I could not be in a band during the fall semester.
This is the first trumpet I ever owned. It's a Bach that my parents bought it for me in 1995 and I used it for everything until 1998 when I got my next one. This was then delegated to my marching horn, a duty it fulfilled until 2008 when I quit marching band. It's pretty crappy because of that. The worst injury it had was when I sat on it by accident in highschool and bent the bell a good 50-60 degrees from straight. It got better ;) Currently the mouthpiece is stuck in it and I've been too lazy to take it into the music store to get it pulled. Meh.
This is my silver trumpet, a Benge. I bought it from my private lesson teacher in 1998 and it has been my concert band/jazz band horn. It has not received a bad injury while I've had it, but my instructor said that it was in a motorcycle accident about 10 years before he sold it to me, where they had to replace the bell. There is a metal band you might be able to see that is the remnants of the fix.
This is a picture of the Benge in its pretty fuzzy case, with my mouthpieces, valve oil, and a stone-lined straight mute, a plunger mute, as well as a harmon mute. I really miss Jazz Band... more than both concert and marching I think.
I also played Mellophone for a season of Marching Band, as well as a couple years of Basketball Band. Mine was the one on the right. I decided to switch because we had like 18-20 trumpets and 2 Mellos in Basketball Band, and then the same thing happened in Marching Band and I offered. I like the sound of the Mellophone better than the Trumpet.
Finally, I played Fluegelhorn in Jazz Band for a year along with Trumpet, but I never took a picture of the instrument and they were school owned. They're basically like Mellophones except a little smaller and the bell is completely different. I think that was really my favorite instrument to play... I love their sound.
