UPDATE WK 9, 10

Mar 15, 2009 19:45

I haven't updated for awhile.  Progress is slow but steady.

16. Restore Carriage House
    a.  Fire old contractor
    b. Hire lawyer to get deposit back
I’ve contacted a lawyer and sent him my papers.  We’ll see what he says.
    c.  write new contract and specifications so I won’t have a problem again
    d.  start calling new contractors to get bids
    e.  choose one and hire him/her
My attorney said to hold off on the repairs as yet.  I had a formal inspection done to determine all the mistakes the old contractor made so I can take him to court and get all my money back.  But I do have a contractor ready to go to finish whenever my attorney gives the ok.

I’ve actually done a lot of home improvement stuff that isn’t on the list.  I had to hire someone to do it and its expensive, but it helped a friend keep her house.  I had a bedroom painted, windows repaired and painted, some locks changed, improved handicapped accessibility.  Not exactly on the list, but really needed.

RELATIONSHIPS
34. Have friends over once a mth (need to get space to do that first)
a  Finish Carriage House and patio first
    b.  Have smaller gatherings till then
Had one dinner party and am making plans for another…Mexican Fiesta Night!
The Fiesta Night is scheduled for the end of this week.  Lots of people want to come to this one as there are no good restaurants here.
We had a kicking Mexican Fiesta.  I made Sangria, fish tacos, and a great Mexican coleslaw.  The snow storm prevented several couples from coming, so we had a lot of left overs.  Somehow I haven’t minded .  I may skip next month though.  It was a huge undertaking and took forever to cook and clean and plan.  Also, the cost was a bit much.  I need to rethink this goal.

One good thing about inviting people over is you get invited over.  I went to a bon-fire

FUN
39. Read one fun book a week .  Read 52 books for fun(2/52)
A little behind here, as I’ve chosen James Mitchner’s “The Chesapeke” for my first book.  But I’ve finished it and enjoyed it very much
I’ve chosen very long books, so I may not get 52 read this year, but I am reading every night.  I’m reading the John Adams bio and 10001 and nights.
I’ve finished the John Adams book and am returning to 1001 Nights.

I need to change this goal. It will now read  “Read 52 books for fun.”  I just can't get through a book a week, not when I'm choosing such big books.

40. Take a class and learn something new
I took the John Adams class, but  I missed most of the classes due to my back.
I took the chair class and made a chair.  I’ll post pictures when I figure out ho.
I’m not really sure I can cross this of yet.  The chair class wasn’t something new, I’ve taken the class before.  I think I need to find something I’ve never done before and learn that.

83. Get MRI and knee surgery
I got my MRI.  Just need to schedule surgery.
The Dr, wants to try injections first.  I’m having a spinal nerve block at end of the week, and several knee injections a week apart (ouch)
I got a spinal nerve block again.  Gosh it’s so delightful to be pain free.  I was very active today.  Bad part is the steroids often depress my immune system.
The knee injections have been fantastic.  I can walk semi-normally.  I can go up and dwn stairs without pain.  I feel like I have my life back.  Unfortunately, the injections don’t last forever.  The most they’ll last is two years.  The average is six months.  Some poor souls it only lasts three weeks.

90. Make a chair
I’ve registered for the class
Well, this I can cross off.  I did indeed make a chair!  Yay! I now have a pair of handcarved sack-back Windsor chairs.  I've painted them but not burnished or polished them yet.  When I can figure out how to post pictures here, I will.

101. Finish library
I have an electrician coming to finish the electrical work.  Will post pictures when done.
Electrical work is done.  I just need to get light fixtures and put them in.<>
