Crowdsourcing life decisions

Okay. I feel kinda bad coming back to LJ after so long away just because I have a problem, but you know, what else is online journaling for? And also I need your opinions and Twitter is way too short for this and my Tumblr is just a bunch of fandom squee (I'm under 'amelioratrix' at both places, if you want to catch up). Where else was I going to ( Read more... )

Sounds tricky- all good options, but if you are leaning towards 3 then go with that. Keep in mind the money you will be saving by staying with your aunt, the benefit of having a "local" show you around the area and not having to wait so long for a break it sounds like you feel you need will be worth the extra money on the second ticket.

Thanks : ) I've just found out that Andrew probably can't get away until late June next year . . . not sure if this is too much into summer and the high season . . . but if I can't go till then I definitely want to go in September this year.

You're worried about going during the high season. Is it simply about perceived additional costs? Larger crowds and competition for good places to stay? Something else I haven't thought about yet?

I find it hard to see the high season as a problem. I mean, because it's the high season there may be better weather. There may be cooler stuff happening. Friends to visit may more likely be taking time off work to take us places. I do recognise issues, but in my mind they're outweighed by possible benefits. (Plus, we get to miss out on a significantly cold part of winter.)

Do you think additional costs, hotter weather and larger crowds would really be that bad?

(This ignores the fact that June is further away, which is what you focus on in the post. I get that, and I'm sorry.)

I agree with leaning towards option 3. Life is short, and having awesome experiences like these you are planning is a super-important investment, in my opinion.

You have to let me know when you are going to be in NYC! Jill and I are only like 2 hours outside of the city.

Definitely not 1, for the reason you give.

Maybe 2. I'd go with 3.

I would wait but in the meantime have a little holiday in Australia or somewhere closer but still overseas. Screw two long haul flights!

We're going to Melbourne in May for our anniversary?

Long haul flights don't bother me so much. I mean, they're not great, but once they're over I tend to forget the discomfort pretty quick. Plus there is a certain charm to them (that wears off an hour in!).

Also, keep in mind that you will probably earn more leave in the meantime. So probably you won't have to worry about accidentally using it up if you go with 2 or 3.
