I have a friend who graduated from AU, and a cousin who is currently attending GW. Both of these people are people I like and respect, and who seem to be doing pretty well for themselves. So I have general good feelings about both of their schools. Other than that, I couldn't tell you much in the way of specifics.
I will say that, whatever school you end up choosing, you're the one who's going to have to spend four years there. So, if GW leaves you cold, that's absolutely something to consider when you decide whether or not to apply there. Don't go to a school where you wouldn't want to be. No matter how well it's ranked. Go where you'll be happy. Rankings don't mean much when it comes to student experience. I think they're mostly done to make parents feel better about shelling out extortionate sums of money to these places.
I think atmosphere matters because at uni, you will be able to network there. Those people could help you along the way even after graduating. idk I wouldn't want to go to a school for the next 2-4 years and get bad vibes from the people who go there. It's kind of the reason why I regret applying to colleges before actually visiting them.
