What is your definition of the word "dating"?

Me and my friend can't exactly agree on what it means so I thought it'd be interesting to see what you all though about it.

EDIT: Hmm... Maybe definition isn't the best word... What do you think constitutes as dating? *feels as if she is being redundant*

Dating; noun, to exclusively be in a relationship with one other person, of the same of different sex. Going public places is not necessary, but basically, you are interested romantically in the other person, and you show it by spending time, calling/emailing/letters etc.

This differs from friendship by the clear romantic factor. And the eventual lead to possible marriage and/or sexual relations.
