Man, I have a hard time remembering that Slave's my age -- when VII was first released, I fell in love with the game (and mostly Cloud) even though I was only 9, 10 and had watched my cousin play through with it first. When I was 12, me and my closest friend met because of our mutual affection for VII and we wrote our own silly fanfiction with self-inserts but even at that age we recognized our fanfic for what it was -- nonsensical preteen writing, but we wrote it for us, not for anyone else. I think back to those days and cringe because I know how terribad our stuff has been but at the same time, I remember how fun it was~ (Don't worry. We both know better now. xD)
It frightens me how similar 12 year old Julia and I were -- I used to wish that Cloud was real and had a really active imagination and...well, yeah. I shudder when I think about how I could've turned out to be like Slave. D: I wonder what changed...
Many of us, myself included, wrote stories for our personal entertainment and for escapism. However, even as a young girl I knew that my story worked only for me and I would have never dreamed of posting it on the internet. I barely let my best friend at the time read a few fragments.
It's natural to want to go on exciting adventures with the characters you like, to want them to be real and befriend them. They're meant to make you feel that way.
As for what changed... we really have no way of knowing for sure.
Also, I was reading some of the older chapters of Shinra High and noticed that in chapter 37 Slave mentions in a note that she's in college. ...WUT.
Assuming that's true, that would at least make her 18 when she posted that chapter, meaning that she was maybe 17 when she started posting SH?! This is assuming that she didn't graduate from high school 3 or 4 years early, drop out/expelled when she was 14 and took a GED test instead, or took part in some college class in high school.
Which ever the case, I think Slave's ran out of feet to shoot and has started to shoot herself in the shins.
I really don't know what she was trying to say in chapter 37. She absolutely could not have been 18 at the time. She tried attending a community college when she was 20-21, and dropped out and that was that.
As proven in this post, the author does lie and twist the truth to make herself look better, so that's probably the case here.
