Hang on...Hojo was mad all this time? Part of him was fighting against hurting Julia and Sephiroth? More of a tragic figure than all out villain?
Slave's been very clear in her writing that she considers Hojo to be the real villain of the FVII series. Nothing in Shinra High or SOLDIER ever indicated another side to him apart from the incredibly out of character villain who shot babies and tortured Sephiroth for the lulz. So..What exactly was she trying to achieve with giving him madness? Was it a clumsy retcon on her part, or did she just not see anything new in writing the voices in his head?
I have no idea. This characterization clashes with everything she's written so far about Hojo. Maybe Slave needed an excuse to have Sephiroth carry her avatar around and warm her with his body?
a menacing looking battleaxe appeared in his bony claw.
Anybody else thinking of the older FF games, where your weapon just appears in your hand when you attack?
She whirled to face him, now slightly apart from Sephiroth, her eyes darted around the room for something that could possibly be used as a semi-effective weapon.
Okay, first of all, she was just talking with him (and vommitting on his desk). Why is she now facing away from him?
Secondly, why would you turn to confront somebody and then look for a weapon?
And why do people infused with Mako puke up blood in these fics anyway?Vomiting blood can come from multiple different sources, but unless mako injections cause ulcers, tumors, or liver failure, it's not very likely. Theoretically, it could simply be a tear in the wall of the esophagus, which can come from excessive vomiting, but since it's always present on the first upchuck, that's clearly not it

Now that you have made that connection, it does look similar to that!

Julia has always been an arrogant, braindead gal. You cannot possibly be surprised.
Also, am I the only one who thought the voices was supposed to be Jenova talking to Sephiroth first?
I thought that as well because that is what I have come to expect from Slave fics, but the split-personality thing caught me off guard.
Even assuming they were so miserly that they didn't use the heating system, why would it be cold during the summer?
So we may pity Julia. So Sephiroth can warm her fragile physique with his hot, manly body.
