Have you ever been given a Native American name?

I have.

It was twenty years ago, the last time I was able to go to Camp Torenta for one week in the summer.

This was actually during a dark period of time in my life. My parents' divorce was finalized towards the end of May, my dad remarried that June, and I didn't exactly get along with either my dad or my stepmother at that time. They also weren't ( Read more... )

I hate to tell you, but if they were just hired NA actors, then they weren't doing it for real, and were probably laughing about the 'stupid whites' who were thinking they were getting 'real' Native American names the whole time. I helped a medicine man at a naming ceremony for a young girl, and he had taken a lot of time to pray for her and find her special name, and when it was revealed, both in English and in the language it came from, it was a life changing moment for the girl and her family...and you could FEEL it. It wasn't something just tossed out for fun. The names are sacred, and should be treated as such.

Most likely your true 'Native American' name is something MUCH more interesting, unique, and meaningful. I got mine in an accidental but still proper manner via a vision, and it was confirmed later by the same medicine man who also told me what the actual words in the other language its in are.

Then they were probably actors out of Chicago. (Long drive for them. Camp Torenta is over by Cadillac West and at least a six-hour drive.) We didn't really get to see their faces. It was dark out and the only light was that of the campfire. This was also 20 years ago so . . .

Ah well. It was still fun. ^_^

Oh, and if they WERE real NA actors, they did a really good job at scaring a large group of young girls from ages 7-14 years of age. The counselors probably knew what was going on, but the children did NOT and many of them were scared just by the way they came crashing through the woods.
