Um, YES PLEASE to your taking on the Jim/CFO fic plea as I'm completely willing to be a fanfic patron!
I think the vibe I got was mostly from the blocking of the "Meet me out back" conversation scene -- the two of them are standing, not facing each other but side by side, and the CFO starts out talking to Jim but looking straight ahead, and then he turns his head to the side to look at Jim when he says the "Meet me out back" line.
Shirttails of Hoyay! YES. So so so much YES. And, "Now where are all of my David [Foster] Wallace/Jim fics, dammit?" I'm glad me and my friends are not alone in making the David Foster Wallace connection there.
I want to make a more thoughtful comment about the rest of this post, but it's late and I'm really tired.
*continues to think about Jim and his untucked shirt*
Do you think JKras has no idea what the sight of him with his shirt untucked like that does to people? Or do you think he knows and is only willing to bring out the big guns for special moments? I must know your opinion.
Oh, I think he has to know by now what he does to us fangirls. But I do like to think that he's oblivious and just does these things without thinking about it, you know? It sort of makes it seem even hotter.
Oh yes. Definitely hotter if he didn't know. I choose to think that for Season 1 eps, because they filmed all 6 eps before they aired, he couldn't have known about his effect on fangirls and therefore the tongue in your icon is just him being his natural hot ball-player self. Guh.
I'm with you on almost every point except one... your take on Pam.
I’d thought that she would have realized during Business School that Roy wasn’t the right person for her, and that she would break up with him because of it. I guess I’d overaccelerated the Fancy-New-Beesly learning curve, because at the beginning of this episode she’s still trying to make a go of it with Roy... So in a way, I’m disappointed that the reason Pam finally calls it quits with Roy is because of his reaction to her confession about Jim, because it didn’t show the greatest amount of growth that she could have had emotionally. I think it's a case of us looking at a single situation and having two entirely different reads on what is going on. What I saw at the beginning of Cocktails was a Pam determined to stand up for herself, to make things work the way SHE wants them to work. Which is why I feel like she was still with Roy... I think she felt some control in that situation, because she's known him for so long. Making that

Okay. WOW. I love this (and you, of course!). I'm really glad you see it this way, and that you took the time to write up why. Especially considering how crazy work has been for you lately! Thanks, because I've been thinking about this all day, and it definitely resolves my concerns over what I'd seen as somewhat inconsistent between Business School and Cocktails.
At first I'd thought that Pam would have had to buy in to Roy 2.0 in order to want to be back in the relationship, or to feel like she had control in their relationship, and given Business School I couldn't see that happening. But after thinking about it, I think she really didn't have to buy in to Roy 2.0 -- she just had to see that he had moved far enough away from 1.0 on the Roy scale that he was willing to give up some power to her in their relationship. I didn't think of it this way until you mentioned that Pam felt control in the relationship and that factored into her decision-making. YES. So you're absolutely right -- she wasn't thinking that this would

Dude, I don't really have anything intelligent to say in response, but this is FANTASTIC META. Truthceptional! Dwight as Lear's Fool! I do believe I have to friend you now.
Once again, I just love your meta on this especially with the whole theme of truth. While I can agree to a degree about Jan using Michael for sex, I don't think that's all it is. I think she's scared of going deeper than that because although she doesn't want to admit it, she can't help but be attracted to Michael's emotional side and wants that connection. If it was all about sex, Jan could easily find that with other people. After hearing Michael's confession of what what he wants, Jan goes along with it and I can't see her doing that unless she thought there was a possibility of that with him.
I love how you pointed out the difference between Dwight and Jim in that Jim won't dig under the surface. That's exactly the problem. As for Michael, I think he believes so much in his little world, his delusions (as Jan says, "or in reality") that he won't see anything other than his truth. Which he's always done for the most part. And yeah, that basketball scene and the former one was just guhhh. So slashy.
Oh I am so glad you replied with another take on Michael/Jan! I shortchanged them both a little bit in this meta. And I have been working on a fic for hiatusathon and without giving anything away, I've been struggling with writing Jan and your comment is super helpful. I think you're totally on point with Jan being open to the possibility of that emotional connection with Michael, especially when she experiences his caring like at the end of Valentine's Day.
What do you think about the conversation in the car at the end of the episode? I thought Jan was a little quick to appease Michael, which I thought initially she did to make sure they'd still be having teh sex, but maybe she doesn't want to lose out on an opportunity for the possibility of something more with him, even though she doesn't know quite what to do with his "I love you." She handled it as well as can be expected, though! :)
*very excited with Jan fic* Awesome idea for a community. Glad my comments helped :) Jan's hard because she doesn't get enough screentime (sadly) and that's usually of her business persona. Underneath that more of her loneliness comes out which is why that connection is so important. His sweet moments in the hotel room in The Client (unseen but still), Valentine's Day and even in Cocktails with adoring her so much really help with that
