Car Picspam (edit in progress)

Today I surveyed the cars that I have some intention of restoring. It's a bit of a laundry list.
In order of apperance:
  • 1977 Jaguar XJ12L
  • 1972 Jaguar XJ6
  • 1978 Jaguar XJ6L
  • 1957 Hillman Minx Estate Wagon (Export, Special Order)
The pictures are behind the cut. I haven't made thumbnails, so... this will be rather bandwidth intensive.

On with the show... )

Those are some projects. Wow. The engine looks pretty messy on the '72 Jag.

I wish I were local - I'd be all for lending a hand as I could.

Quite a bit of work ahead of you love, but I don't think I see any truly lost causes in there. Just make sure to get those engines damn clean before you try cranking them. As in completely pulled out, honed, and probably tanked for good measure. But they should still be there from what I'm seeing. Also looks like there might be a need for pulling each little part, sanding or the like, and painting if you want it all pretty. Anyway I can help just let me know. :)

The only car that is most likely close to a lost cause is the 1957 Hillman. I'm going to have to make a judgment call after finishing the '72.

I've already decided that both are going to need a rebuild outside of the car. I didn't take pictures of the other two motors I have to work with. I'll do that next though.

I need to figure out how much time I'm going to need to devote to the car in my regular schedule. I expect that I'd like to start devoting at least one day a weekend to it, after the mother-in-law has departed back to Windsor.

My current agenda is pulling the old motor from the '72, but I currently have the issue that I have no where to put it. Upside, if I have

There are two blocks in the garage that are good candidates for work. They're both still covered in their original oil, so they haven't done the rusting thing. I still think I'm going to get both blocks honed and tanked after I disassemble them. I'm starting to think that building up two motors will be the most efficient outcome.

I've got a lot of thoughts in my mind right now.
