First off you need to have a photo editing program. Things like Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop do the trick. You can find a resizing tutorial there, since I don't know what kind of photo program you have. But generally, any photo program, whether it came with your computer, camera, or neither, there should be a resizing option.

Second, upload photos onto Tinypic.com or Photobucket.com. They'll give you a link to post on your page. :)

You can do what Aki suggested above, or you can just upload your photos to photobucket and have them resize them for you... I do, I think it's easier.

Then just paste the code they give you onto your journal. For myspace, though, I've no idea.

So i keep trying to post the code to use for myspace and facebook, but then it keeps making a photo out of it... so IM me sometime beckabeeboo, and ill give you the code and step by step directions for both...
