$8!!!! That's extortionate!...works out at £5! Certainly the difference in quality is obvious, I feel very lucky :-)
Depending on your garden/ lifestyle you probably could keep a couple of hens in a coop. They are low maintenance, cheap to keep, and a good poultry-keeping book would give all the info you need to get started.
No more $8 eggs ;-) That kind of money buys several weeks rations of layer's mash/pellets and grain. Our two are only about 1/2 way through their first bag of each, and we've had them 6 weeks. When they eat so many bugs all day, all you need is to give them a top up of feed morning and evening, works out about 120 grams per hen per day.
