Annie Dillard said very eloquently (and specifically) something I've been thinking for a long time. One of my favorite people taught me to think that way. I'm actually really glad I'm alive right now, where I am. The world's a beautiful place. Previous generations were not more virtuous: we've just forgotten many of their sins. Just as, after an absence, we forget the faults of a friend, and remember only the joy they bring.
