i've been thinking about buying a juicer but one of my concerns has been the amount/cost of produce that goes into making a small amount of juice. i'm borrowing a friend's juicer so i can have a better idea of what to expect

God I love carrot juice (esp with a chunk of ginger thrown in)...but watch out for the sugar content if you don't mind the warning. It's crazy high when you take out the fiber that slows the sugars down. Here's a lovely green juice recipe: 2 cucumbers, 1 head of celery, 1 bunch of parsley, and half a bunch of spinach. Add more cucumber if it's too bitter. More expensive than carrot juice? Yes. But it's the best thing evar...no sugar worries and excellent nutrition! You can add more serious dark greens to boost the vitamin C...just be aware that all that extra C can get those bowels a-moving. Glad you likes your juicer. Keep in mind that you can freeze the pulp if you don't have time to use it right after juicing.
thanks! that recipe sounds delicious! i LOVE greens and green drinks. the first juice came from googling the ingredients i had on hand. :) it was definitely sweeter than i like. i've got a lot of learning to do as far as optimizing/ balancing nutrition.
I haven't been juicing at home, but I'm hooked on getting them from the fresh juicers at Daily Juice and Whole Foods. One of my favorite combos lately is carrot, beet & kale.
Wow, thanks for posting this - I'll definitely try that out! My extra juice pulp was one of the main reasons I finally started a compost bin, but I like your solution much better.
