I've been doing my research, and I've found that not all absinthes are created equal! The following quote suffices:
"'Bathtub absinthe' is almost invariably nothing like real absinthe. Real absinthe is produced by a complex maceration/distillation process that extracts the essential oils from wormwood (and several other herbs) while leaving behind the bitter compounds. Real absinthe is actually quite tasty, not unlike Herbsaint or Pernod. Homemade absinthe is almost always made by steeping wormwood leaves in strong alcohol, producing a nasty, bitter concoction that's practically undrinkable."
The absinthe snobs out there completely dis any of the Czech brews as worse than bile, while the first-level absinthes include some of the Spanish distillations, then the good French ones, and finally the likes of Suisse La Bleue or Jade Novelle Orleans as the pinnacle of the art.
