"It is said that the future is always born in pain. The history of war is the history of pain. If we are wise, what is born of that pain matures into the promise of a better world, because we learn that we can no longer afford the mistakes of the past."

Very interesting quote... who said it? I'm assuming that in The Future they meant something akin to growth?! Otherwise the optimist in me would have to argue against it. ;-)

Really? I consider the original statement optimistic in that it is one of hope. The future is always about growth after some fashion or other. That's what our species does.

Sorry, that's what I meant. I was just specifying that as long as they were referring to The Future (note: capitals, i.e. your growth as a human) then it was a good quote.
I just wasn't completely sure if that's what the original speaker meant or if they just meant the generic future.
Am I making more sense now? Hope so... :-)
