I can always recomend Martha and/or Rufus Wainwright. Also, there's a guy here in Britain by the name of Paolo Nutini (he's Scottish, ha ha), he's good, but a bit more on the pop-side. You might check him out on MySpace.

I completely forgot to mention this earlier, but I think you would really love The Clientele. Their earlier stuff is fantastic, as is their current work(supposedly). I have a singles/EP collection of theirs, Suburban Light, and it's really excellent. I also forgot to mention Gorky's Zygotic Mynci; they're a Welsh band that broke up very recently, but left behind a collection of really good albums.
just remembered The Good, The Bad and The Queen. This gropu has Dmon Albarn from Blur/Gorillaz and the great Paul Simonon from the Clash on bass and that guitar player from The Verve.

I don't know what exactly you're looking for, especially since I'm not into the whole folk movement, but--
I've got some mum, aqualung, john butler trio, eva cassidy, oneida, pauline croze, psapp, and royksopp in my bag.
Uh...Stina Nordestam.
Yeah. None of what I say makes sense, but if you like what something looks like I say you go for it.
