Ohhhhhhh.....How torturous is it that I discover after the screenings are long since sold out that the New York Film Festival, which opens Friday, is premiering the new films of: Wes Anderson [fuck yeah--I didn't even know I entertained the white-hot fantasy of Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody and Bill Murray sharing a screen together until this ( Read more... )

Aw, man. I wish I could've seen those films.

Your new icon is great. In fact, it's even more amusing to see two of them moving at the same time. :)

Oh yeah, they'll all be out in due time, but with movie tickets at $11 a pop in New York (and matinees are quite scarce), that can really add up around the holiday season when most of the best films are typically released. Have you seen the trailer for The Golden Compass yet? It looks fantastic.

Movies cost about the same around here, and some of the matinees are only $2 less. Grr. No, I haven't seen the trailer. Thanks for the tip. :)

Oh, speaking of indie films--and unconventionally hot movie stars, your namesake came into my store & ordered a wedding ring last week. He lives in Park Slope and we see him EVERYWHERE--his very attractive (she has long red hair & cool glasses) wife is a regular shopper with us. Luckily I didn't have to help him personally, since I would have been a stuttering, furiously blushing mess. Waiting on John Turturro (who is extremely nice but has a bit of the absentminded professor quality to him) was hard enough.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, though! You can always attend the screening of my documentary, which is showing as part of the E. Vil. City Film Fest. It's on Saturday, October 6 at 3p.m.

True, my film doesn't have Bill Murray. But it's only 26 minutes long, which means you'll be out early enough to drink so much that everyone looks like Bill Murray.

Or something. :)

Aw man, I so wish I could go--but being a lifetime retail drone, the concept of having Saturdays off is lost on me, and my assistant manager is on her honeymoon that week so I wouldn't even be able to switch anything around. Hope I can catch it some other time!

See this in the Onion today? I thought it was pretty funny--

New Wes Anderson Film Features Deadpan Delivery, Meticulous Art Direction, Characters With Father Issues

LOS ANGELES-Fans who attended a sneak preview Monday of critically acclaimed director Wes Anderson's newest project, The Darjeeling Limited, were surprised to learn that the film features a deadpan comedic tone, highly stylized production design, and a plot centering around unresolved family issues.

"What will he think of next?" audience member Michael Cauley said. "And who could have foreseen the elaborately crafted '60s-era aesthetic, melancholy subtext, and quirky nomenclature-to say nothing of the unexpected curveball of casting Owen Wilson, Jason Schwartzman, and Bill Murray?"

In a recent review, New York Times film critic A.O. Scott also expressed surprise at the film's cutting-edge soundtrack, which features a Rolling Stones song and three different tracks by the Kinks.

Ya know, i was going to post a somewhat snarky comment about what the new Anderson film would be like in this style, but The Onion beat me to it.

i look forward to seeing the wes anderson film one day. if i'm lucky it will play at the SPECTRUM theater in albany. formerly an 'art house' theater of sorts they now show a lot more mainstream films. it is one of the places i enjoyed in albany as a teenager. i saw heathers and earth girls are easy there (on the same night!) a long, long time ago.
