Dunno if it's the guns - NZ, Canada, Switzerland, etc, have about the same per-capita gun ownership and availability as the US, but a far lower level of gun-death per capita, and fewer mass shootings (NZ, two nutters in sixty years, one in 1942, one in the eighties).
I think it's the high gun ownership combined with something cultural, particularly the idea that it's a _right_ to have the guns.
By the same token, Martin Bryant got 35 and 37 wounded. So its not neccessarily got much to do with guns but ability to plan while you're in a moral no-go zone...
It says in our Constitution that we have the right to bear arms (which is the excuse that the gun-waving population uses) but we aren't waiting for the redcoats anymore. We have become a violent society and it is really scary living here at times ):
gun lobbyests will say.." guns dont kill people, people kill people"
anti gun campaigners say.."people would kill less people if they didnt have guns"
the rest scratch their heads thinking..."why does this keep happening in america?"
we stop children playing with matches because the consequences outway the short term entertainment. besides, the child doesnt need the matches, give him/her something else to play with.
regardless of the statistics...americans and guns do not mix. take them away. see the mass killings drop, its as fuckn simple as that.
its a bloody fuckn stupid right to have. it just re-enforces the neanderthal, redneck, lack of brain morons that say... " i wont the right to own 12 rifles, 3 m16s, and 7 pistols. and if i want to go out and buy more, i want the right to go out and buy more. because this is america and i have the democratic right" in that case i should have the democratic right to shove that rifle up your ass for being such a dick.
Ah, but Americans murdering Americans is protected by the constitution. Its their right! Osama, had he been American, could have pled constitutional rights to bear suicide planes...
We do dont we? And lets hope that never happens again. I remember the day that happened... I was pretty young but even then was sickened and so very sad for what had happened. Now i'm old and jaded and feel nothing but emptiness when this happens.. Product of society and mind numbing TV...
