Ooh, what profession is that?

[She does strike him as the type to be adventurous, but he doesn't know if his type of adventure counts as a profession. So what could hers be?]

I'm an Egyptologist - I study and research Ancient Egypt, a- Um. It's a country in Northern Africa. A very old country, part of the cradle of civilization as we know it.

[She, uh. Really likes to talk about this.]

Oooh, that sounds fascinating! Do you get to explore that place a lot?

[He's going to feed his horse a carrot as they talk because aaaaah horses, he likes horses.]

Not as often as I'd like, woman aren't- Well, I'm suppose I'm something of a rare bird. Not many women have this job, it makes it difficult to get things done sometimes.

[And she will just be rubbing a brush over the horse's side now.]

[He nods.] It is a little odd, si!

[And then he peeks around the horse at her.] But I find adventure attractive in a lady.

[Brace yourself, Miguel, for you have flattered a young woman who doesn't receive compliments all that often. She blushes politely and flusters over her words.]

I- I, um...thank you?

[She laughs, feeling the tension ebb.]

A sense of adventure isn't usually what people look for in others; I'm glad you can appreciate it.

It is essentially all I look for in others.

[Grin.]

[She grins back and teases him; his enthusiasm is contagious.]

But you are Spanish, sir. What about romance?

Well, romance is an adventure. If you're doing it right.

[Eyebrows.]

Do you find much time for it here?

[It's said conversationally, even though her cheeks are a little pink from his suggestive glance.]

...romance, I mean.

[She's nervous about it. So nervous.]

[Hm. Suspicious!]

I suppose not. I've had a few encounters, you could say, but nobody's truly caught my eye.

Why? Are you suggesting something?

I just- I feel like in some respects, we've been given a kind of second chance here.

[So there's no sense in wasting it.]

A-And I'm not suggesting something, by any means- All right, just a bit, it's that, um...

[She stops brushing the horse, frowning a little bit at the animal's side.]

...have you ever...really liked someone?

kch_kch November 5 2011, 21:46:07 UTC
[He hesitates. That's a...heavy question.]

I'm guessing you don't mean just "like", hm?

I don't...really know if it qualifies as- as what I think you're implying. Not yet.

[Nervous shift.]

But more than liking. Yes.
