I've been working as an intern/volunteer in the cataloging department of an academic library since the end of the summer. It's been a great experience, and definitely solidifies my desire to pursue a career within the cataloging field of library science

I don't know what your price range is, but here are some good generic suggestions: gift card to a restaurant/cafe/local bookstore, gourmet coffee or tea along with a mug, a library related t-shirt...without knowing what kind of stuff he likes, it's hard to suggest much. Thinkgeek.com might have some nifty stuff.

Gift card to a local bookstore? Most librarian families (especially ones with children!) always have a bookstore wishlist. :)
