Who in Church

A friend of mine, who I hooked on Doctor Who, was very excited to tell me today that her minister discussed Doctor Who in his sermon on Sunday.  They use screens, and he had a picture of the TARDIS and of Smith and Gillan.  I asked if the reference made sense, and she said it did.  He said that the Devil may try to convince you that God is limited ( Read more... )

That is SO excellent! Our pastor loves to throw in movie quotes and other references all the time, I wonder if I could somehow convert him to a little Who someday. :-D

I'd say it's worth a shot. BTW, I love your icon!

Excellent!

To me, Doctor Who has such a humanist element to it... I often wonder if my more religious friends who are fans have conflicts with some of the messages. But it's cool to see metaphors come out of it in both directions :D

Oh the Amy voiceover is taking place at the beginning to ALL the eps? Boo. I've actually not watched it on BBCA yet but I have heard rumbling complaints about the voiceover.

I don't think it was on Day of the Moon, so I was hoping they just threw it in on the first episode. Then it was there on Curse of the Black Spot. It is a minor thing, but a bit annoying nonetheless.

That is such a cool minister!

I haven't heard the voiceovers myself, but, like Eve above, I have heard plenty of complaints about them. American fans aren't that thick. xD

Well to be fair, some American fans ARE that thick, but it's annoying to those of us who aren't! ;-)

The topic of Doctor Who came up at our church on Easter Eve, while we were talking in the vestry before the service. Our vicar said he wasn't in the habit of watching it, but he'd seen The Impossible Astronaut earlier that evening with a godchild. Both, apparently, had to hide behind cushions :-)

Oh, and he's got Patrick Troughton's autograph.

The first two episodes were pretty creepy. I was thinking that if I were 12 I'd probably be behind the sofa.

That is so cool that he has Troughton's autograph! Usually the only people I run into who are familiar with Who are the ones I've personally converted to it, so the fact that my friend's minister has become a fan is a delight.

I <3 your minister.

They're putting the annoying but with Amy on in front of episodes in Canada too. It wouldn't be so bad but it makes it out like Amy's life story is the total plot of the show when, no, it really isn't. Also it cut into the theme song which is just not okay.

I agree, it makes it feel like Amy is the first companion ever. And less theme song can't be good!
