This is painful - Paramount sues fanfic writers over copyright infringement

Read the articleAs a Star Trek fan from way back - i.e., ORIGINAL Star Trek and all of the fanzines (remember that word anybody?) were PRINTED - this is painful. I haven't seen the film although the article includes photos from it. But based on what I have seen there is no way these guys can win this. Hm, I don't see anything in that Guardian article about fanfic. Maybe the URL got mixed up?

Yeah the headline is a little misleading. From what I recall from reading the article, the people in question have created a filmed version of fan fic. They basically shot a Star Trek movie even though they didn't have permission from Paramount or CBS. They're basically using the Star Trek concepts including Klingons and the Klingon language without permission. That's a no-no. It's not text fanfic but Paramount and CBS are taking legal moves to stop them. And my fear is that this will make them turn their beady little eyes to the fanfic stories that are online. And even on the people who do You Tube fan fic. Normally, Paramount and CBS don't mind because we don't try to make money off of what they own. But these guys are. That's the problem.
