I probably wouldn't do this...

if I were sober. :)
Man I'm annoyed with that whole "Here, let me define slash for you and instruct you in the CORRECT way to write it" attitude from some people. I don't care how many big words or high flown phrases are used - it all comes down to "I know the right way to write slash - coincidentally, it's the way I do it - and all you people are ( Read more... )

I've seen this exact issue in other fandoms and it always annoys me. There's always one person (well, one who speaks it publicly) who thinks his/her preferences actually define good writing (or, in two cases, "real" slash as opposed to whatever garbage other people apparently are writing/reading). Dang it, it makes me mad. Not the preference, but the conceit. Blah.

I wholeheartedly agree. And creating a fictional person who agrees with you 100% is taking the thing waaaay too far.

Read and shut up. Damn.

Now I'm riled up again.

Ooh...do you think it was fake? Ouch. I didn't even go that far, although the "flooded in box" of people who agreed with her was clearly crap. There aren't enough people in the whole damn S&H fandom to flood anyone's mailbox. :) Honestly, if she'd just said "Oh where oh where are the WNGWJLEO stories???" people would've given her links and agreed with her and all that stuff. But no, we're treated to a polemic about how pathetic we are as writers and slashers for considering the possibility that they might be gay.

Sigh ... now I'm riling myself up again.

Let's go write or read some good slash instead, OK? Better use of our time.

Every time I consider maybe introducing myself on that list, I flick through the recent messages and find wank.

So sticking to lj. Besides, I like the format better=)

Yeah, I was sorry to see this one, which has been the wankiest so far in my very short time on the list - but it is true that there's regularly someone being a jerk ... I suppose in any good sized group. :) But on LJ one can more easily skip it. I also prefer this format - I don't really like Yahoo lists much.

I'm with you - got burned too many times from yahoo groups, though I can't say I've quit Me and Thee. I do get tired of the bullshit.

Back from con now. Tiiiirred.

Bet you guys had a great time, though! I imagine things'll be a bit quiet until everyone's had a couple of good nights' sleep. :)

Agreed. As it stands now I think we've come full circle and I've started to get tired of the posts. Noting new to say anymore. I honestly do enjoy a lively discussion and at the very least it has been entertaining to follow.

Well, I understand why you're tired of the posts, but it's the inevitable result of a troll.
1. "Hi, I'm new, and by the way anyone who doesn't write slash MY way is a stupid PC jerk!"
2. Smug announcement that thousands of silent supporters have flocked to her side (in which case, she's hardly the abused minority she made herself out to be, eh?)
3. Complete fail to address any of the logical and reasonable remarks made in response, while continuing to make illogical and emotional appeals about people missing her point (we didn't) and being an oppressed minority - remarks that in fact do not reflect the real situation, remarks designed to inflame.
4. Another smug "my work here is done" post and resultant disappearance to (presumably) gloat.

It was perfect trolling, in fact. They push all kinds of buttons and offend lots of people, then fall silent to observe the reaction. I had to resist the urge to applaud. ;-) I've seen it before in other fandoms and I'm sure I'll see it again.

The trolls I've seen before were much less sophisticated about it, so it's been interesting really. As for her supposed supporters I'm beginning to suspect that the post from an 'anonymous' poster was really a variety of the sock-puppet species. Even those that supported her POV's somewhat, was still critical. Oh well, it's the kind of stuff that happens :) There's so many great people on the list and I've never felt anything but openness and acceptance.

Yeah. People like that will come and go. Fortunately they usually go. I mean, she writes, and writes well, so she's not just a troll - but that makes it more of a shame that she's obviously someone who likes to offend and insult other people because it gives her a sense of power.
We can always hope she's done, but my bet would be she'll be back at least once, with another inflammatory post (all in the name of "just my opinion" or free speech). That'll be my bet - at least one return strafing run. :)
