Love for the Philippines

My essay posts have been about how we don't need a new President but a new political system. Well, pardon me for getting carried away with the political drama. Just when I never took a political stand, I started taking a stand on current political issues. But it doesn't take much to see that, inevitably, it is not only corruption that leads to the ( Read more... )

as much as it pains me to admit it, i agree with him.

but! this doesn't change my opinion that (most) koreans are STILL rude little bastards. :p

did i ever tell you about that fil-am acquaintance (not friend, thanks) of mine from SCU -- he visited the philippines (for the first time, i think) last summer, and he wouldn't shut up about how much he hated it. "oh, well, my DAD left the philippines when he was twelve, and he never wants to go back, because he hates it there, blah blah BLAHHH~!" i was hard pressed not to kick his stupid anime-obsessed face in.

Ha ha, as much as it pains you to admit it. I had to say something like that too when I posted that Korean guy's essay. He was making a lot of sense and I'm very surprised he and his parents think that way about the Filipinos and the Philippines.

Well, when it comes to Koreans, there are the rude and the nice ones. That's also how it is with Americans, I guess. He he.

I have to totally agree with the essay. And although there are rude Koreans, I've met many nice ones here during my stay in this interesting dorm where people of many nationalities dwindle XD

It kinda sucks for me that my mom happens to be one of those people who don't seem to share the idea that one must love the Philippines. Then again, I think of myself as lucky that I actually know myself. If I didn't, then by now I must have been brainwashed to think that the Philippines is not worth loving and I must leave for another land ASAP.

I think what the Philippines really needs is a great big mindset change. First of all, we must learn to love the Philippines more. I think this can be best done if the media weren't so crazy about corruption and slapping it on to the front page. It would be so much lovelier if for a while we could sugar-coat our country so people here would love it and appreciate it.

Yes! I know, right? During Marcos' time, there was a period when only good news was allowed. That may also have been a form of suppression of the truth, but then again, it had its benefits. Ha ha. Yes, I agree with you how it wouldn't hurt if for a while we just sugar-coat our lovely country.

And yes, that's totally my point! The media's just too crazy about corruption nowadays and putting it on the front page. Yes, people should still be aware of things like that, but there's more to a country than corruption in the government. Corruption is even an inevitable thing. Perhaps we should just learn to work around it. So many countries have and they're successful, progressive nations.

Aw, that sucks your mum doesn't really have the idea of loving the Philippines. Yes, that's a very good thing you know yourself. Here's to a secure identity ( ... )
