We worked on the mask this weekend.
We got a hard hat and used the head band to mount the mask. It works great, but hot glue does not stick well to the resin mask. We will have to attach it better, probably using more resin.
We look at how to attach the teeth. We decided to add them to the master and make a new mold. Gluing and puttying them into place. I had to clean up the inner edge a bit, but it looks great.
The teeth might not cast well with air bubbles and such, so we are getting more teeth sets.
Worse case we cut away the cast and glue in the new teeth, but this way there is not a huge void in the mask that needs to be filled.
Best case we the teeth turn out fine and we are done.
This will be my 3rd attempt at a 2 part mold. Hopefully it will turn out better.
The smooth cast is fragile, just in normal handling we chipped out 2 chunks off the test cast. Smooth on makes some stronger resins for thin wall casts and slush castings. I will have to see what they recommend for our project.
Geso works great as a primmer over the resin, it should make them easy to paint.
It also makes it pick up dirt and show ever fingerprint. :)
Tonight I want to start making the mask and hand paw molds and work on, if not finish, the jaw.
I have the basic shape done. I need to clean up the edge, add the teeth and do the finish smoothing.
I wonder if the duct tape glue is what caused the weirdness in the other mold? I think I will plastic wrap over it just in case. And do a materials test on the side so I know.
