Very well put. This is, in fact, one of the reasons I was opposed to the suggestion to allow community owners and maintainers to disallow posts written in Cyrillic. It's discrimination, plain and simple. And besides, as I brought up, the majority of the spam I've seen is in ENGLISH, so banning posts in Cyrillic wouldn't solve the problem.
Besides, if it weren't for "the Russians," LJ Support would be deprived of one of our highly esteemed and all-around valuable volunteers, namely camomiletea. <3
Yeah, that suggestion was something... I, too, have seen spam in English, and in several Asian languages. I always try to imagine how I'd feel if people suddenly became convinced that all German users were spambots.
It's strange how some people don't even seem to think that there might possibly be Russian (or, come to think of it, other non-English speaking) people who are active in English-language LJ. Probably they assume that because they're monolingual, everyone else will be too. At least that's something one learns in Support - so many people have those different backgrounds and language skills, and the site really isn't as monolithic as some seem to assume.
