graphics: information and two statements
There are two issues concerning my graphics entries which I stumble across regularly. Instead of giving the same answers over and over again I'm making this entry (and hopefully it will be helpful).
1.) "Where can I find the picture you used for icon/header/banner #...?"
I'm a huge SPN fan but unfortunately it's quite impossible for me to remember where I found every single pic. I do have thousands (literally, believe it) of SPN related pictures plus the screencaps from all episodes. Anyway I don't use (or have) any "secret" pics - all pics I use usually can be found all over the fandom.
And the same applies to my other fandoms (e.g. Christian Bale).
Until a few days ago, I actually used to upload pictures for all people who asked (which were quite many), sometimes I even remembered which site I took the pic from and searched for the (direct) link to it. And I liked doing this because I was glad to help. However I won't do it anymore. First it takes time. Finding a specific picture on my computer, uploading it, remembering to take it down afterwards (because otherwise a few people might hotlink). Or even searching on other sites. Second I'm a little tired of some people's attitude. When I was new to a fandom I spent hours, days and even weeks on becoming familiar with the fandom and tracking down and saving all pictures. I didn't settle back and asked other people to find the pics for me. Besides two people whom I uploaded pics for didn't even reply. I'm tired of it.
If you need a pic you can check my resources entry (which is pretty neat and exhaustive) or still ask - perhaps I remember the site where I found it and will be happy to point you to it. However don't expect me to upload or to find pics for you anymore, please.
2.) "I didn't know what hotlinking meant."
I'm tired of people who are hotlinking. All my pics and graphics are hosted either on my private server (which I pay money for) or on photobucket (which has traffic limits) and I don't want people to hotlink. Unfortunately I can't do anything about these Russian and similar boards who obviously enjoy hotlinking but I can't understand why so many lj users still hotlink. And when I send a message and nicely ask them to stop hotlinking they usually say that they didn't know what hotlinking was. Seriously, that's like jumping a red light and saying you doesn't know what a red light means. And even if you really didn't know (have you been living under a rock?) just ask or google it. Every graphics maker ask people not to hotlink. Reading this, didn't you ever wonder what hotlinking could mean?
Anyway please stop hotlinking (definiton). Don't force me to replace my banners with pictures that will be quite embarrassing for the hotlinkers. I'm usually a nice girl and I don't enjoy being mean (but I will be if there's no other way).
